SUMMARY:Frontiers of Science: Prof. Gwendalyn Randolph
DESCRIPTION:19th November at 12:00\nOnsite event\nin Presidentti auditorium
 \, BioCity\nAutumn 2026 poster\n\nProf. Gwendalyn Randolph\, WashU Medicin
 e\, USA\nThe 3 L’s converge: Lymphoid tissue\, lymphatics\, and lipoprot
eins\n\nHost: Sirpa Jalkanen (sirjal@utu.fi)\n\nCoffee and sandwich served
at 11:45\, first come first serve!\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSix PhD researchers and
early-career postdocs are welcome to have lunch and discuss with Prof. Ran
dolph after the seminar. This is a great possibility to learn hosting skil
ls in a friendly environment and create connections for future. Everyone i
s welcome to join\, BioCity Turku will offer the lunch.\n\nIf you got inte

Gwendalyn J. Randolph is the Emil R. Unanue Distinguished Professor in the
Department of Immunology and Pathology at Washington University in St. Lo
uis\, Missouri. Her  research focuses on the trafficking of immune cells
and molecular cargo between tissues\, lymphatics\, and distal organs\, and
how these processes contribute to chronic inflammatory disease. Her labor
atory has defined how monocytes\, dendritic cells\, macrophages\, and lipo
proteins migrate through tissues and lymphatic vessels in conditions such
 as atherosclerosis\, psoriasis\, Crohn’s disease\, and liver inflammatio
 n. By combining immunology\, imaging\, lineage tracing\, and single-cell p
rofiling approaches\, her lab has revealed mechanisms that regulate immune
cell migration\, lymphatic transport\, and tissue-specific macrophage spe
cialization. More recently\, Gwendalyn Randolph’s research has focused o
n the role of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) trafficking in inflammation a
nd tissue homeostasis. Her group demonstrated that lymphatic and vascular
transport pathways are critical for HDL movement between organs and identi
fied a specialized form of intestine-derived HDL that protects the liver f
rom inflammatory injury caused by microbial products. These findings provi
de new insight into the links between immunity\, metabolism\, and inflamma
tory disease\, with potential translational applications for cardiovascula
r\, intestinal\, and liver disorders. In parallel\, her laboratory has tra
ined numerous scientists who have gone on to establish independent researc
 h laboratories worldwide.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSelected publications\n\nShchukina
