SUMMARY:Special seminar Prof. Jacques Collinge
DESCRIPTION:Topic of the Lecture: Inference of cellular networks in tissues
from bulk\, single-cell\, or spatial data with an application to spatial
transcriptomics of breast cancer\n\nSpeaker: Prof. Collinge is based at th
e University of Montpellier where he leads a group entitled “Cancer Bioi
nformatics &amp\; Systems Biology”. He has an interesting career track s
panning industry and academia.\n\nShort bio:\n\nJacques Collinge is a Swis
s and French national with degrees in computer science and mathematics and
a Ph.D. in applied mathematics (numerical analysis of PDEs\, Geneva Unive
rsity). After completing his Ph.D.\, Jacques started working as a bioinfor
maticians in the Pharma industry (Serono)\, an then as group leader in the
biotech industry (GeneProt Inc.). His main topics of research were transc
riptomics and mostly mass spectrometry/proteomics-related bioinformatics.
After 6 years in the industry\, he returned to the Academia as professor o
f bioinformatics at the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences in Ha
genberg. Two years later\, he joined and helped to set up the Center for M
olecular Medicine (CeMM) of the Autrsian Academy of Sciences in Vienna dir
ected by Giulio Superti-Furga as Head of Bioinformatics. During these 8 ye
ars\, Jacques was also Adjunct Professor (Privat Docent) at the Technical
University in Graz. At CeMM\, his main research topic became systems biolo
gy and functional proteomics data analysis. In 2014\, he moved to Montpell
ier to become a Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and a Principal
Investigator at Montpellier Cancer Research Center (IRCM)\, where he combi
nes his expertise in functional genomics and systems biology to work on ca
ncer with numerous clinical and scientific interactions.\n\nProf. Collinge
will touch upon genetic and proteomic\, including single cell proteomic d
ata analysis in his talk.\n\nTime and place: Sept. 28th at 10:00 in the Bi
ocity 5th floor seminar room (Turku Bioscience Centre).\n\nHost: Eleanor C
offey.\n\nAfter his seminar\, Prof. Collinge will serve as the opponent fo
r the PhD defence of Ye Hong at 12:00 in Educarium 1. You are all warmly w
 elcome\n\n&nbsp\;
