Dissertation defense (Cell Biology and Anatomy): MSc Mitro Miihkinen
MSc Mitro Miihkinen from Westermarck Lab defends his dissertation in Cell Biology and Anatomy entitled ”NOVEL INSIGHTS INTO FILOPODIA FUNCTION – A focus on integrin and F-actin regulation” on 8.10.2021 at 12.00 – 16.00
Opponent: Professor Staffan Strömblad, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden
Custos: Professor Johanna Ivaska, University of Turku
Many cell types extend small finger-like protrusions, named filopodia, from their surfaces. The extended filopodia can then sweep the surrounding, extracellular space for neighbouring cells, guidance cues or extracellular matrix. In a set of high-end microscopy studies, Mitro Miihkinen has mapped novel cellular mechanisms of how cells recognize extracellular matrix using filopodia.
