Professor Laura Elo receives award for outstanding research from the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation

The Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation awarded Professor of Computational Medicine Laura Elo a €50,000 prize for her outstanding research, development of international scientific collaboration, and contributions to training future generations of researchers.
Elo is an open-minded promoter of interdisciplinary international research and networking, who has made a significant impact on the development of computational medicine, systems biology, and bioinformatics in Finland and worldwide. Her work brings together a wide range of scientific fields – from artificial intelligence and mathematical modeling to biosciences and medicine – benefiting both the research community and healthcare.
– It is a great honor to receive this kind of recognition for our work. At the same time, it is an acknowledgement to my talented research team and shows the power of collaboration, because computational medicine is created by combining different fields so that diseases can be understood better. I also hope that I can inspire a new generation of researchers to boldly advance science, Elo says.
