Publications & Acknowledgements

Acknowledging the Advanced Imaging Core Facility

If you use our instruments, it is compulsory to acknowledge the Advanced Imaging Core Facility and our funding sources in your publications.

Example:
Imaging was performed at the Advanced Imaging Core Facility at Turku Bioscience Centre, supported by Biocentre Finland, the Finnish Advanced Microscopy Node of Euro-BioImaging Finland (Turku, Finland), and Turku Bioimaging. This work was supported by the Research Council of Finland, FIRI 2023 grant decision numbers 359073 and 358879, and FIRI 2024 grant decision numbers 367582 and 367577.

If you use the xCELLigence RTCA eSight:
Testament funds from Henna Ruusunen also supported this work.

Methods description support

In addition to the acknowledgement text, manuscripts should accurately describe the microscope, objective, detector, light source, software, and acquisition setup. You can use the AIC-Turku Dashboard to generate structured, methods-ready microscope descriptions.

Open the AIC-Turku methods generator →

You can also browse microscope-specific hardware and software details in the dashboard before preparing your methods section.

When should I acknowledge AIC-Turku?

Please acknowledge the facility if any of the following apply:

  • You used an AIC-Turku microscope or imaging workstation.
  • You received training from AIC staff.
  • You received consultation on microscopy, experimental design, image acquisition, or image analysis.
  • AIC staff helped with instrument setup, troubleshooting, acquisition strategy, or data interpretation.
  • Your publication includes data acquired using AIC-Turku equipment.

When should AIC staff be included as co-authors?

Acknowledgement is appropriate for routine instrument access, standard training, and general facility support. Co-authorship may be appropriate when AIC staff make a substantial intellectual or technical contribution to the study, such as developing a custom imaging workflow, designing experiments, or performing advanced analysis.

If you are unsure whether acknowledgement or co-authorship is appropriate, please contact AIC staff early in the manuscript preparation process.
