The Department of Life Technologies at University of Turku has awarded the Title of Docent (Adjunct Professor) in Computational Biology to Senior postdoctoral researcher, Dr. Partho Sen
After completing his PhD in ‘Biological Sciences’ (Computational Biology) from the University of Montpellier, France he started his career path in Systems biology and medicine, to understand how complex biological systems regulate, adapt and cope under various environmental and physiological conditions. Dr. Sen pursued his first postdoctoral training from the Nielsen’s lab at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden working on several projects which involved co-metabolism between the gut microbiota and humans in health and disease. Currently, working as a senior postdoctoral researcher in the Systems Medicine group at Turku Bioscience, University of Turku, Finland, his research spans along different topics such as metabolism in immune cells and Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), Celiac disease progression, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and exposomics – with a common goal to understand mechanism(s) that incur dys(regulation) of biochemical processes in health and disease states, and thereby identify molecular markers.
“I am excited to share my vision for scientific research, particularly in approaches that promote the application of high throughput ‘Big’ data, and development of tools to address modern challenges in the healthcare sector, and in cell/tissue biology.” – says Partho
