Niels Ødum is full professor in immunology at the Health Science Faculty, University of Copenhagen since 2012. He did his PhD in the University of Copenhagen and after visiting research fellow periods in Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research, Seattle, USA and Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan, he became associate professor and after that full professor at the department of Biology in the University of Copenhagen. He was appointed as the Executive Director at the LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center in University of Copenhagen this year.

Niels Ødum together with his research group has made numerous scientific discoveries including identifying new HLA genes, their function and importance in transplantation and autoimmunity. He has made discoveries unravelling Interleukin-2 signal cascades and pathological signalling in T cell lymphoma and discovered oncogenes and their targets and functions.  He has also carried out research in diagnostic miRNA profiling of inflammatory skin disorders, identification of novel therapeutic targets and the role of bacteria in driving T cell lymphoma and drug resistance.

Niels Ødum is author of 350 papers in peer-reviewed journals and patents/patent applications within the fields of immunology, immune pathology, signal transduction and gene regulation with more than 12.800 citations and H-index 62. He is also reviewer for multiple international journals and organizer/co-organizer of several international conferences.
